2) CALL OF THE FOREST:
THE FORGOTTEN WISDOM OF TREES

Movie at the Screening Room , Sun April 9, 1:30 and 4:00 pm. http://screeningroomkingston.com/movie/call-of-the-forest-the-forgotten-wisdom-of-trees/
Call of the Forest follows visionary scientist, conservationist and author, Diana Beresford-Kroeger, on her journey to the most beautiful forests of the northern hemisphere. From the sacred sugi and cedar forests of Japan, the ancient Raheen Wood of Ireland, the walnut and redwood trees of America, to the great boreal forest of Canada, Beresford-Kroeger tells us the amazing stories behind the history and legacy of these ancient forests while also explaining the science of trees and the irreplaceable roles they play in protecting and feeding the planet. A lot to reconsider about plantings in parks and along trails.

3) BELLE ISAND CLEAN-UPS.  https://www.facebook.com/events/1194714083911800/permalink/1278268362223038/  for possible times for Belle Island clean-ups on weekends this season.  As many of you know, the Tannery has become a real centre for the homeless – especially  over the last year.  They do need a place.  We are very grateful to Home Base Housing for checking things out now and again to make sure they are OK.  We do have fears however that Belle Island will be the next destination for Kingston’s homeless. We honestly hope that  Belle Island sacred grounds can remain natural, free of garbage, and respected.  We need to help to ensure this remains a reality. The clean-ups help.

12) COMMUNITY GROUPS SUITE DEAL AT K-ROCK
Starting April 6, community organizations can once again apply to use the City of Kingston’s community suite at Rogers K-Rock Centre for Kingston Frontenacs’ home games during the regular hockey season that takes place between September 2017 and March 2018. Use of the suite includes complimentary tickets to the game.
Groups eligible to apply include:  incorporated not-for-profit agencies, registered charities, minor sports associations, service clubs and community organizations in the Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) which includes the Township of South Frontenac, the Township of Frontenac Islands, Loyalist Township and the City of Kingston.
Groups interested in applying for this suite deal should:
•      review the community suite allocation guidelines at <http://www.CityofKingston.ca/CommunitySuite> and
•      fill out the form at the end of the guidelines and return it by noon on June 1 to <mailto:communitysuite@cityofkingston.ca> or fax it to 613-546-1899.

Due to the limited number of home games, applications will be approved by the City on a first come, first served basis. Successful applicants will then have their names entered in a random draw to receive the date of their home game.
When using the suite, successful applicants are responsible for the cost of food and beverages consumed. Groups that applied last season must reapply to be considered for events for this upcoming year

So that’s it for this month,
See you out on the trail.
Cheers
