2) New Monthly Sing-Along
What: Monthly sing-along series with Spencer Evans and his band, along with some fabulous musical guests. Family-friendly. Crafts, food and beverages.
When: Sun, May 27, 3 pm
Where: Calvary United Church, 45 Charles St, Kingston
NOTE: This event will also be held, Sun, June 24 at 1 pm in Skeleton Park as part of the Skeleton Park Arts Festival.
3) Paddlers meet Turtles!
What: Trailhead is organizing their wonderful annual paddling demo day – including instructions for beginners for kayaks and stand-up boards. This event will also include a brief Turtle Information Session and kayaking to see them basking along the shore of the Inner Harbour.

5) Monthly Open Mic Poetry Series + Mini Book Launch
What: Open mic for poets to read from their works. 6 min max.
Also this month, a mini-book launch in the earlier portion of the evening.
Nicole Therien, originally from Kingston but currently residing in Ottawa, will be launching her first book, Game Changer: Hold that Thought! This will be her first public reading from it. Born with spastic Cerebral Palsy, and using a wheelchair to get around, this is a memoir that chronicles her faith journey and the challenges she’s experienced in the care systems throughout her life. She will have copies of the book with her that evening. A short additional break will also follow that launch.
When: Tues, June 5. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Readings 7:00 – 9:30 pm.
Itinerary: 3 open mic readings / launch reading / break / open mic readings / short break / final open mic reading.

6) Talking on the Street Photo Exhibit, June 5-30: Open house June 10
What: This exhibit, curated by Chris Miner, photographer, and Laura Murray, researcher, is funded by the City of Kingston Heritage Fund and includes twenty large-format black and white photographs taken by, preserved by, and featuring residents of the area between the 1890s and 1960s. Photos will be mounted outdoors around the neighbourhood at the locations they were taken (between Stephen and Queen, Patrick and Bagot). In the Elm Cafe at Montreal and Charles, more portraits will appear with captions providing information about those they portray, as shared in oral history interviews and revealed by archival sources.
Facing the Street aims to bring among us just a few of our predecessors through family photos generously shared by people who lived in the neighbourhood. Good days, bad days, cold days, hot days, festive days, lonely days. Go for a walk and see who you meet!
When: Exhibit runs June 5 – June 30.

NOTE: The Friends of Kingston Inner Harbour have been delighted to enable this exhibit by inviting the organizers to submit their proposal under our umbrella.
7) WHEELCHAIR RALLY! Sun, June 10
What: An inclusive celebration for Wheelchair users, family, friends and the community at large.
Come for a fantastic performance of Integrated Persian Dance for wheelchair users as well as anyone interested in exploring this way of moving.
Decorate your wheelchair!
Head out on the great accessible K&P Trail!
And/or come drum, dance, sing with the Kingston Drum Circle!
When: Sun June 10
2pm: Wheelchair Decoration
2:20 pm: Dignitaries: Mayor Bryan Paterson, MP Mark Gerretsen + MPP.
2:30 pm: Performance and Lesson by the Iranian Wheelchair Dancers
2:50 pm: Head out on the trail up to Quattrocchi’s and back or as far as is comfortable.

9) Calliope Collective’s Community Summer Solstice Celebration, June 20
What: Calliope Collective invites you to once again engage with Community, and to enjoy spectacle and surprise as the wheel turns for the Longest Day of the Year and the first quarter of the Strawberry / Honey Moon!
Puppets, faeries and more will transport you to a world of enchantment in a safe and sacred space for earth-based traditions. We will witness the Holly and Oak Kings compete once again for the praise of the goddess and honour Mother Earth through a theatrical community-based performance.
Choreography, drumming and theatrical workshopping will take place starting at the end of May through early June.

10) Skeleton Park Arts Festival, Wed, June 20 – Sun, June 24
What: A non-profit annual summer solstice celebration held in and around Kingston’s historic McBurney Park, popularly known as ‘Skeleton Park’ due to its 19th century history as a cemetery. The multidisciplinary festival showcases artists from Kingston and around the world, in addition to a variety of family and heritage activities.”
When: Full event Wed thru Sun, June 20-24.
Also Included: The second annual Hillside Poetry Stage from 2-4pm on the afternoon of June 23rd featuring readings by local poets Steven Heighton, Alyssa Cooper, and LJ Weisberg.
And featuring: Reading and music by Toronto poet and musician Dave Bidini of The Rheostatics in the adjacent Hillside Park situated just off Sydenham St, with an entrance to it 1/3 block north. Another entrance is off Montreal at the corner of North St.
